  What makes someone so sure...

  that a surpreme being is gonna help us?.

  on another thread that i started i asked what is wrong with the new age ideas.

  some people seem so afraid of it.. one poster mentioned that new age stuff is incorrect because jesus is for sure gonna come take us away from this world.. now i am opened minded.

  They have convinced themselves that a supreme being exists and that he's going to save them. It's quite remarkable considering they have done this when absolutely no proof exists.

  When however one explores the world around them, it not only provides hard proof, it offers understanding that opens up possibilities to change and fix things.

  Faith without proof is held up to be a virtue. Why? How is it admirable to believe in something that flies in the face of logic and reason?

  There's an invisible man in the sky who created everything, yet left no proof of his existance. Something that powerful and knowledgeable surely could communicate effectively, so why hasn't he? The Bible? The bible was written by humans and is a retold story of a story of a story of a story. I can write a book that says a blue platypus created everything. With well constructed circular arguments, I can take this book and give it to a group of people and insist that everything in it is correct and most will believe me. I can insist that we can't see the blue platypus because it is a spirit creature but if we have faith, we will go to live with it when we die.

  On the other hand, I can dig up fossils, examine the rocks, and look through microscopes and telescopes, and use very complex and sensitive instruments to measure things and come up with a theory that works. Not only does it explain how the Earth and life came to be, others can examine the data independently and arrive at the same conclusions. Not only that, it can be verified over and over again. No faith is required at all.

  i just caught the conclusion of an npr news brief regarding zimbabwe (i believe the country is zimbabwe); the government is using food as a weapon, i.e., 'you support our regime and we'll feed you.'.

  the journalist ended her report saying that it is 'a desperate regime that will do anything to stay in power.'.

  my first thought was of the governing body.. call me crazy .... coco.

  In some ways the GB is worse. They use fear as a means to control people now and in the future.

  Do as we say or you'll be killed at Armageddon and birds will pick your eyeballs out and eat them.

  the wacktower is simply a large corporation that maintains a profit margin.

  as crude oil goes up, so will the costs of printing wacktowers and books.

  sooner or later drastic measures will be taken to reduce costs.

  You know how they love to deride BtheG for passing the plate and filling out tithing slips?

  I have a feeling they'll start doing something similar.

  I predict it'll be announced at the DC ASSembly and presented as a "loving" provision the GB has made so that faithful witnesses can now fill out a form and have 10% of their income go directly to the society. Followed of course by a 5 minute applause.

  The R&F won't blink an eye.

  graven images are so thoroughly criticized in the bible....totally forbidden.

  yet any idols made where powerless...just a piece of wood you can also cook on.

  yet god sent out zillions of vipers (thanks dude) to bite everybody....and actually has a scary viper impage made an put on a pole....with some serious power attached.

  Yeah! Also, wasn't the serpent made out to be the bad guy (that whole Satan thing), so why make the Isrealites gaze on it so they wouldn't die? That's like looking to the devil to be saved!

  HAHAHAHA!

  What pissed me off was the account of god sending 2 bears to rip children apart for making fun of Elisha's bald head.

  Yeah. That's loving and fair. Kids (being kids) were having a spot of fun with some cranky "prophet" and Jehovah sent 2 bears to attack them and rip all the village kids to ribbons.

  When I was a kid, we had some PO who would love to tell us that story.

  Sometimes, I really hate these people.

  Why I will NEVER be an elder again

  so the po confirmed what many on this board already know.

  at latest round of co to elders meeting, the co quoted from the society outline.

  any elder or ms who encourages college for his kids or others or who allows his children to go to college will no longer qualify.. he then asked if i was going to take the cos encouragement and reach out again to be an elder and get my hours on the ministry up.. i replied "i will never be an elder again - i strongly approve of further education and college and have been through college myself.

  When I was 16 and mentioned that I planned to go to college to some stuck up, smart mouthed, "zealous" JW girl I was forced to hang around with, she started raising her voice and acting an ass saying that I was going to become materialistic, self centered, I was spiritually weak, yadda yadda yadda.

  Two years later, she was disfellowshiped and living on welfare and I was grooving in college.

  When has Science Ever been proven wrong by the Bible?

  the watchtower sunday made a claim to the effect that when science conflicts with the bible, the bible has always been proven to be correct.

  if i had been there, i would have asked "could you provide some specific examples"?.

  i'm thinking that reality is actually the other way, science always disproves the bible.

  That is the search page for the American Humanist Organization. You can search for local Humanist groups in your area. The majority of Humanists are either agnostic or atheist. Anyway, most local Humanist organizations offer a chance to get together with your fellow atheists in real life.

  And Richard Dawkin's website has a forum for atheist discussions.

  the prophesy of the second coming is about to be fulfilled.

  i (bring_the_light) shall return to europe july 19 - august 10. .

  graduating from college right next to bethel........and a gilead grad......too much.........and did you guys know he is the valedictorian.....like top score there.........awesome!.............inspirational!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
